CHUCK CRUMP CLAIMS SIXTH WIN OF SEASON
CONCORD, N.C. – Chuck Crump of Star, NC claimed his sixth win of the season in the Town & Country Ford Late Model Stock Car division Saturday Night at Concord Motorsport Park. Other winners included Mike Terry of Charlotte in the j R D Earthworks Limited Late Models; Charles Hutto of Monroe in the Coca-Cola Pure Stocks; Wayne Harrington of Salisbury in The Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours and Rusty Drye of Rockwell, NC in the Insurance Auto Auction Bootlegger Brigade.
The Late Model Stock Cars took the green flag at 8:49 PM, about 20 minutes ahead of the projected start time because speedway officials were once again trying to beat the rain. The irony is, in the midst of what our area weather forecasters call severe drought conditions that the rush was on yet again to dodge severe thunderstorms in the area. In Turn Three of the first lap, Justin Hill in the #45 Chevrolet slammed into the rear of Crump’s #8 R. L. Kellam Company 2008 Ford Fusion. Crump completed a good hands move but in the process, Terry Brooks, Jr. of Concord jumped to the point; Bob Saville of Albemarle, NC in the #57 Leisure Tyme Rentals 2008 Chevrolet Impala SS jumped to third. By lap 8 Crump was challenging Brooks and took back first place in Turn Two in the next circuit. Meanwhile Saville, Kevin Love and Justin Hill were contesting third. Caution flew on lap 13 when Hill tried inside Love in the #88 Ford on the front straight. Contact between the two sent Hill into a 180-degree spin, sliding to a stop at pit-out. Crump lead the rest of the 75-lap feature while a gaggle of cars fought for the second spot. At the checkered flag Love was second, Saville a close third, Hill fourth and Brian Conforth of Cape Coral, Florida crossing the line fifth.
Steve Ackerly of Medford, NY was first across the line at the conclusion of the J R D Earthworks Limited Late Model feature in his Town & Country Ford 2007 Ford Fusion and it looked like He would score his first Limited Late Model victory. However, the gasoline in the fuel system did not compare favorably with the fuel dispensed by the track and disqualification resulted. The new finish showed Mike Terry as the winner; Jeff Melton in second in the #6; Jay Payne of Thomasville third in the #08 Ford; David Miller of Concord fourth in the #74 Chevrolet and jerry Miracle, D.D.S. of Monroe fifth in the #32 Miracle Dental Center Chevrolet.
Charles Hutto of Monroe assumed his post-race position in Victory Lane in the #1 WIXE Radio / Auto Trader Monte Carlo. Hutto’s sixth win of the season followed a closing laps duel with the #11 Monte Carlo of Cooper Faasen, also of Monroe. Clinton Baker Charleston, Illinois claimed third, Evan Cupples of Harrisburg finished fourth in his debut of the #60 Chevrolet while David Good of Gastonia rolled in fifth.
Wayne Harrington of Salisbury garnered his third win of the year in the Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours. Second went to Chad Johnson of Concord, third to Tracy Mullis of Indian Trail, fourth to Jake Simpson of Albemarle and fifth to Eric Kimrey of Norwood.
The Insurance Auto Auction Bootlegger Brigade winner was Rusty Drye of Rockwell in the “Vigilante”. Second went to Kirby Allen, third to Matt Drye, fourth to Chris James and fifth to Reverend Buddy Compton who doubled back from his Pure Stock race to compete with the Bootleggers.
